Procedure & Fees

The Unveiling of the Portrait of Judge Stovall, Ceremonial Courtroom, Civil Courthouse, Houston, Texas, January 7, 1994

"My usual procedure is to meet with the client to discuss the client's expectations about the portrait and to decide upon the medium, size, setting and clothing. This meeting may be at my studio or your home or office or another mutually agreeable location."

"A portrait is a painting of a particular person. Without a likeness of the subject, whatever the merits of a painting, it is not a portrait. After years of painting, I find the greatest satisfaction in creating a portrait of a unique human being."

"Whatever the medium, whether formal or informal, indoors or outdoors, the image of a person is defined by light and shadow falling on form. For the artist, it is wonderful to have a live subject with perfect lighting, but since time and circumstance do not usually allow this luxury I prefer to take my own photographs that I will use as reference."
